By KAMPALA,UGANDA; The Board of Directors of the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA) has appointed Dr. Protazio Sande as the Acting Chief Executive Officer, effective June 1, 2026.Currently serving as the Director of Strategy and Market Development, Dr. Sande brings extensive experience, institutional knowledge, and leadership expertise to the role.
The Board is confident that Dr. Sande’s leadership will sustain the Authority’s momentum in promoting a sound, competitive, and inclusive insurance sector. His stewardship will help maintain institutional stability while supporting the continued growth and development of Uganda’s insurance industry.
The Authority remains fully committed to its mandate of regulating, supervising, and promoting a sound, competitive, and inclusive insurance sector in Uganda. Stakeholders are assured that all regulatory functions, operations, and services of the Authority will continue uninterrupted during this transition.
The Board also recognizes and appreciates the significant contribution made by Alhaj Dr. Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega during his tenure. Under his leadership, the Authority achieved notable progress in insurance regulation, market development, and policyholder protection.
