Kasibante Skips Kigezi Campaign Stops

KAMPALA;As the 2026 presidential campaigns gain momentum across Uganda, the Kigezi sub-region has so far seen no activity from any presidential candidates, with National Peasants Party (NPP) flagbearer Robert Kasibante failing to show up despite being scheduled in the official campaign calendar.

According to the program, Kasibante was expected to kick off rallies in Rukungiri, Rubanda, Rukiga, and Kanungu districts, with today earmarked for Kabale and Kisoro districts as he sought voters’ mandate for the country’s top seat.

When contacted by our reporter, Kasibante confirmed he had not toured the Kigezi districts, explaining that the party is currently managing multiple aspirants seeking nomination under the NPP banner.

“It’s true I have not shown up to campaign in the districts of Kigezi sub-region because as a party we noticed that we have people interested to contest under the party flag. We are waiting for nominations for MPs to be completed; then we shall plan for the campaigns,” Kasibante said.

He added that once the parliamentary nominations are finalized, the party will formally request the Electoral Commission for a rescheduled visit to Kigezi.

Kasibante is scheduled to resume his presidential campaign tomorrow in the districts of Isingiro, Rakai, Kyotera, Lyantonde, and Lwengo.
