Kampala, Uganda — Singer-turned-politician Mathias Walukagga has declared unwavering confidence in his chances of clinching the Busiro East parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2026 general elections, saying his victory is already “a done deal.”
After being endorsed as the official National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer, Walukagga boldly proclaimed that his journey to Parliament is nearly complete. Speaking during an interview, the Kadongo Kamu musician-turned-politician said he has already begun preparing for his swearing-in ceremony.
“One foot is already in Parliament,” Walukagga said with a smile. “When you get the NUP card, you’ve already secured 50%. You only need 1% more to make 51% and swear in.”
Confident and Loyal to NUP
Walukagga attributed his confidence to the strength and influence of the NUP party, led by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine. He pledged unwavering loyalty to the party, vowing never to run as an independent even if he hadn’t secured the flag.
“I would never stand as an independent. My loyalty is to NUP. I believe God has chosen me for this path,” he said.
The artist-turned-politician emphasized that his faith and commitment to the party were the pillars of his campaign, asserting that divine destiny plays a central role in his political journey.
“God decided to pick me,” he added. “Others may be more educated, but this time, it’s my turn.”
Facing Off with Incumbent Medard Sseggona
Walukagga’s declaration comes amid growing tension in Busiro East, where long-serving incumbent Medard Sseggona, who has represented the constituency for 15 years, has announced plans to run as an independent candidate after losing the NUP endorsement.
Despite Sseggona’s vast political experience, Walukagga remains undeterred, insisting that the electorate is ready for change.
“Hon. Sseggona has served for a long time, but every season has its time. This is my season,” Walukagga said confidently.
Political analysts note that Walukagga’s celebrity background and populist appeal could make him a serious contender in the race, especially under the NUP banner, which dominates the central region’s political landscape.
Eyes Set on Victory
As he intensifies his campaign, Walukagga’s message to the people of Busiro East centers on service, transformation, and faith. He called upon supporters to rally behind him, promising a leadership that reflects the values and aspirations of ordinary citizens.
“The hardest part was winning the NUP flag. The rest will be much easier,” he said.
Walukagga’s buoyant optimism and high-profile personality have made him one of the most talked-about candidates ahead of the 2026 elections. Whether his prophecy of victory comes true remains to be seen, but his confidence has already set the tone for a fiercely contested race.
