Political Drama: NRM Tribunal Overturns Election of Tanga Odoi’s Son

Uganda’s ruling party, the NRM, has been rocked by high-stakes political drama after its tribunal on Monday nullified the election of Collin Tanga the son of Dr. Tanga Odoi, the party’s all-powerful Electoral Commission chairperson.

Collin had controversially been declared the NRM Youth League Chairperson, edging out rival Brenda Kiconco. But Kiconco swiftly petitioned, setting off a storm that has now ended in one of the party’s most humiliating electoral reversals in years.

The tribunal’s verdict? The poll was riddled with irregularities so glaring that no candidate could legitimately claim victory.
“Given the tainted tally and unreliable record, none of the petitioners can be declared duly elected,” the ruling thundered. “The proper remedy is to nullify the election and order a fresh poll.”

But the shockwaves didn’t end there. In a move many are calling a direct slap at nepotism, the tribunal barred Dr. Tanga Odoi himself from having any role in the re-run effectively sidelining the man whose name has long been synonymous with NRM elections.
“To restore confidence, Dr. Tanga Odoi shall not preside over or participate in any capacity in the conduct of the fresh election,” the panel declared.

For observers, the message is unmistakable: the NRM is under mounting pressure to clean house, curb the influence of political dynasties, and show that internal democracy isn’t just a slogan.

This ruling doesn’t just reset one youth election  it has set social media on fire, fueling debates about power, privilege, and the future of the ruling party itself.
