Retired Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Rwashande Graduates with First-Class Degree from Nkumba University

KAMPALA; Retired Brigadier General Emmanuel Rwashande has proven that learning never stops, earning a first-class degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from Nkumba University. He was among 2,087 students who graduated on Saturday during the university’s 26th graduation ceremony, presided over by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa.

The ceremony, which celebrated academic excellence and lifelong learning, also saw notable personalities such as Presidential Advisor Catherine Kusasira among the graduates.

Brig. Gen. Rwashande, who has transitioned from military service to political life, is currently running for Member of Parliament for Lwemiyaga County, where he is set to face off with the embattled incumbent, Theodore Ssekikubo.

Speaking after receiving his degree, Rwashande expressed pride in his academic journey, noting that it had its highs and lows but ultimately reflected his commitment to growth and discipline.

“I was very astute in class — sometimes at the top, sometimes near the bottom,” he said with a smile. “But I kept pushing. This degree is not just mine; it’s a symbol of removing what I call ‘wololo’ — ignorance — from those who haven’t yet embraced education.”

The retired officer’s academic success has drawn admiration from both colleagues and students, who praised his humility and determination to excel despite his age and busy schedule.

Nkumba University officials hailed the 2025 graduating class for their resilience and dedication, especially amid evolving global challenges in education and employment.

As Brig. Gen. Rwashande continues to pursue his political ambitions, his latest achievement stands as a powerful reminder that education remains a lifelong mission — one that can inspire both soldiers and civilians alike.
