KAMPALA – As the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) kicks off at Namboole Stadium, the police have issued a public notice to inform motorists and road users of the traffic arrangements in place to ensure the smooth movement of participants and dignitaries.
According to the police, “Diversions will be implemented only if the need arises, especially during ongoing matches at Namboole Stadium. These diversions will take effect from 12:00 PM on match days.” The diversions include:
- All trucks being diverted at Kalelwe Interchange to Gayaza-Kalagi-Mukono
- All vehicles being diverted at Naalya Interchange to face Kyaliwajjala – Ssonde-Seeta
- All Vehicles being diverted from Bweyogerere to face Jokas Hotel -kinawataka road
- A cutoff point at Hared Petrol station on Kinawataka road to deny access to Kireka Trading Center, with only pedestrians allowed to access Kireka-Nasanga junction up to Jokas hotel road.
The police have also designated specific parking areas, with parking at the Southern Playground Wing strictly reserved for VIP-accredited vehicles only. “VIPs are reminded to clearly display their stickers for easy identification by parking officers,” the police said. General parking will be at Bweyogerere Police Station Play Ground.
To ensure the safety and smooth movement of participants and dignitaries, the police will deploy heavy traffic personnel along all designated routes. “Lead vehicles will accompany convoys to facilitate secure & uninterrupted transit,” the police added.
The police are urging all motorists and road users to comply fully with all directives issued by traffic officers, exercise maximum discipline, patience, and courtesy on the roads, and plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays and inconveniences during peak tournament activities. “Your cooperation is essential to the success and safety of this prestigious continental event,” the police said
