By Tragedy has struck Masindi Government Prison, where a convicted inmate was killed in a shocking early morning attack by a fellow prisoner.
The incident happened in the early hours of August 3, 2025, inside the TB isolation ward, according to Frank Baine Mayanja, spokesperson for the Uganda Prisons Service.
The victim, Moses Tuhame (Convict No. MDI/829/2023), who was serving a sentence for aggravated defilement, was fatally assaulted by Anatoli Irumba, a remand prisoner facing charges for murdering his own mother.
According to prison authorities, the attack occurred at around 4:00 AM. Tuhame was rushed to Masindi Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
Police have since launched a full investigation, and a postmortem examination is being conducted before the body is handed over to the family.
The Uganda Prisons Service has extended its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
This chilling incident raises serious questions about inmate housing, security protocols, and the handling of high-risk prisoners.
