When the Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, sent his words of praise to Kampala, it was more than a formality. It was a recognition of Uganda’s rising profile as a dependable stage for Africa’s biggest sporting spectacles.
On Sunday, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among delivered Dr. Motsepe’s message of appreciation to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, thanking the Head of State and the Ugandan people for their contribution to the resounding success of the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN).
“Earlier today, I delivered a special message of appreciation to President Museveni on behalf of CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe. This was also a message to the people of Uganda, recognizing their successful hosting of CHAN 2024,” Speaker Among announced.
Her words carried an additional note of gratitude for the First Lady Janet Museveni, the local organizing committee, FUFA, and the thousands of passionate fans who turned the tournament into a festival of football.
Held in August and co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, this year’s CHAN was not only logistically seamless but also emotionally charged. Stadiums in Uganda buzzed with unrelenting energy, with fans creating unforgettable atmospheres that captured the spirit of African football.
The recognition from CAF is more than ceremonial praise, it underscores Uganda’s transformation into a reliable host for major continental events and reaffirms the unifying power of sport across nations.
